SkinPen is an acne and anti-aging treatment that can be used to treat nearly any area of the body, including the face, neck, décolletage, stomach, arms, hands, legs, and back. The device uses 14 stainless steel, medical grade needles to create controlled micro-wounds in the skin that kickstart the body’s natural wound-healing process, which create brand-new collagen and elastin. This new collagen and elastin helps the skin become smoother, firmer, and more youthful.
Once the micro-needles puncture the skin, the brain is signaled to send in wound-healing properties — cytokines and growth factors — which results in the production of new collagen and elastin. The wounds will all be replaced with healthy new dermal tissue. Blood flow is increased, and a new network of blood vessels will develop. This helps reduce the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, lines, and wrinkles.

Before your treatment begins, a topical numbing agent may be used to keep any discomfort minimal. The majority of patients find SkinPen treatments to be very tolerable, and very worth it. Gel will be applied to the tip of the SkinPen device to help it move more easily over the skin. The 14 micro-needles are able to create 1,600 tiny penetrations per second, and the needle depth will be adjusted by your specialist based on your specific needs. The sensation feels like a small vibration. Treatment time is approximately 30 minutes to one hour.
You can expect to appear flushed for about 24 hours after treatment, and then your skin color will return to normal and you’ll have a radiant glow which will continue to improve over the course of the following weeks. For the best results, we usually recommend a series of 3 to 6 treatments scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart. Some patients experience dryness, itching, peeling, discomfort, rough skin, tightness, redness, tenderness, and slight burning, but this is rare and temporary.
